This is one of the best, most efficient and well-constructed sewage pumps on the market. Zoeller is also one of our top-flight manufacturers and has a great reputation in the industry. Performance Curve Applications The Zoeller 212-0001 is designed for use in residential or light commercial sewage applications. The pump is effective at moving wastewater, its designed function. It can also be used for general water transfer, groundwater, and effluent. Construction The volute itself is made of rugged cast iron, while the base is engineered plastic. The volute is covered with a powder coated epoxy finish for extra corrosion resistance. Remember, corrosion is a major threat for wastewater pumps, so extra resistance is important. A vertical float switch is integrated parallel to the pump. Features  The motor is oil-filled and hermetically-sealed with an automatic reset for thermal overload protection. A heat sink allows for excess heat to dissipate. Each pump can pass up to 2" spherical solids through a 2" NPT Discharge. The mechanical seal is a mix of carbon and ceramic with a NBR rubber sealant elastomer. All in all, this is a great sewage pump for your wastewater needs. • Inspector Pumphead Previews the U.S. Open!

    August 28, 2017

It’s time for The U.S. Open of Tennis! In addition to being the tennis Major of North America, the U.S. Open is also one of the most important sports events to take place in Queens and is critical to the borough, especially if the Mets stink (so, usually). Every year, the final major of the year is held at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center complex, with the main court featuring at Arthur Ashe Stadium. All the biggest matches, including both the men’s and women’s final, are held at Arthur Ashe. With its fast hard courts and vibrant crowd (often including many New York-based celebrities), the U.S. Open easily distinguishes itself from the more formal Wimbledon and the slow clay court based French Open. This year’s draw promises to provide some interest. Roger Federer’s magical comeback mystery tour rolls along, as the now 36 year old continues to defy tennis history and known sports biology by continuing to play at an elite level. Part of the secret is simply rest of course, as Federer has withdrawn from more tournaments to stay fresh. Still, the fact that he is the favorite heading into the Open at his age is a marvel. Tennis used to be ruled by prodigies in their late teens and early 20s. No longer. Federer has tough draw and could potentially have to get through other bright lights such as Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem and longtime rival Rafael Nadal just to reach the semifinals. While Nadal has not been in quite the same form as Federer over the past few tournaments, he does have the easier path and might be the safer bet. With Andy Murray sitting out due to injury, Nadal and Federer will supply most of the veteran star power. It will be interesting to see if any of the young guns can step up to the challenge. Also keep an eye on relative newcomer Alexander Zverev. Over on the women’s side, all eyes are on Maria Sharapova who is returning to the game after a 15-month drug suspension.  Sharapova only made it as a wildcard and the U.S. Open will be her first major back.  Long layoffs can be killer for tennis players, so it will be interesting to see how she plays. Even with her time away from the game, Sharapova is still the biggest woman star and will draw the lion’s share of the attention. Garbiñe Muguruza is coming off her Wimbledon win and has been playing the best tennis of her life all year. The smart money is still on Muguruza, but top seed Karolina Pliskova, Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep (who opens against Sharapova) are all lurking. It should be quite a corker. All in all, the U.S. Open is one of the premier tennis events in the world and in one of the greatest cities in the world. Don’t pass up the chance to go to a match if you’re in the area!

  • Inspector Pumphead’s Classroom : How to Attach a Float Switch to a Pump

    August 17, 2017

Welcome to an exciting edition of Inspector Pumphead's Classroom! In this feature, we'll be talking about various small, simple pump "How-To's" that any homeowner or facilities manager can tackle. Next up: how to attach a float switch. In the video below, PumpProducts.com application engineer Nick, who I have personally trained, will walk you through the process, using the Goulds LSP0311ATF and Goulds STS21V submersible sump pumps as examples:              If you prefer a written guide, read on. First, what is a float switch If you're browsing this site, chances are you already know, but briefly: a float switch is simply a mechanism that activates a pump when water within the pumping systems enclosed area (pit, basin, etc.) reaches a certain level. A chamber or compartment contains the actual switching mechanism when it is pushed up by water. There are a wide variety of different switch types. Perhaps the two most common are vertical float switches and tethered style piggyback float switches. With a vertical switch, a thin plastic stem runs through the center of the switch compartment. The stem is attached parallel to the vertical axis of the pump. Water rises, the switch compartment moves up the plastic stem. Tethered switches have the compartment attached to a flexible cord, which hangs parallel to the vertical axis of the pump. When the water level rises, the tethered compartment "swings" upward, activating the switch mechanism. Keep in mind that tethered switches require room to swing, so if you have a small or narrow basin, a vertical switch might better serve your needs. How to Attach The principles are the same for either a vertical or tethered style float switch, just keep in mind that a tethered switch will need more space to swing up. First, make sure that you have all your materials. If you buy an automatic pump, a circular clamp mechanism should come with your package. The only tool you'll need is a screwdriver. Next, you need to attach the clamp to the float itself. Vertical float switches should have a mounting bracket that connects to the clamp. For a tethered switch, you can slide the cord between a tight snap clip. Put clamp and switch together. Next, find a good level to attach the switch - it should be higher up on the discharge pipe. Remember, that submersible pumps need to be engulfed in water, which acts as a coolant for the motor. The clamp should wrap around the cylindrical discharge pipe and rest loosely. Tighten with your screwdriver and voila - your switch is attached. It's simple and easy. For a piggyback float, you can plug it into the back of your pump's power cord. As the name suggests, the switch will "piggyback" off of the pump's current. As I said in a previous FAQ blog, our application engineers usually recommend buying a pump with a piggyback float (when available) because it grants the user a high degree of control. When attached, the float will “piggyback” of the power cord’s current and activate when the water reaches a certain level, but you can also detach the float and run the pump manually. It's also a good option as a replacement float because of the ease of installation. Pump Products application engineers are standing by to help you find the right pump, as well as to provide price quotes, stocking availability and shipping information.
