  • Goulds Model WE0511H Effluent Pump Buyers Guide & Review

    June 29, 2017

The Goulds WE0511H is an excellent choice if you are looking for an Effluent Pump. This pump can move effluent (or graywater) in residential or light commercial settings. It was specifically designed for on-site wastewater treatment in multi-unit dwellings with expansive systems. Think farms, trailer parks, motels, schools and hospitals. Basically, any site that involves a large number of people using the system everyday. The Goulds WE0511H Effluent Pump can transport effluent containing up to ¾” non abrasive solids. It is a heavy duty pump at approximately 70 lbs. Construction Goulds Effluent Pumps are known for sturdy, well-designed construction and this model is no exception. The volute is rugged class 30 gray cast iron for extra protection. Specifically, the cast iron is thick enough to withstand 1.5 times (!) the shut-off pressure that could potentially be produced by the largest available impeller for the pump. Now that’s rugged. The shaft is stainless steel with a threaded design and the fasteners are 300 series stainless steel. The cast iron impeller is a semi-open type with pump out vanes that distribute potential contaminants to prevent clogging. The mechanical seal has two sealing silicon carbide faces and BUNA-N elastomers for containment. Extra special construction is particularly important for submersible effluent pumps because of the potentially corrosive effects of being submerged in and pumping out wastewater for extended periods of time. The construction of the Goulds WE0511H Effluent Pump ensures that the pump will avoid damage and perform for the life of the pump. In fact, while the pump is meant to be run continuously submerged, it can also be run dry for intermittent periods. Naturally, such a pump will need to be able to withstand certain temperatures and the Goulds WE0511H can withstand continuous water temperatures up to 104° F. Performance The curve for all models in the series is shown below: -CurveThe WE0511H can reach capacities up to 80 GPM and a maximum head of 45 ft. TDH. Breakdown Diagram Part Options Other options for certain parts and/or configuration are available for this pump. Be sure to choose the best available option according to your specific application needs, such as the size of a system or the type of job. • Little Giant Model 554401 Condensate Pump Buyers Guide & Review

    June 27, 2017

Pump Products recommends the Little Giant 554401 Condensate return pump. This is a great pump ideal for transferring condensate without a gravity drain. “Condensate” in this case refers to the water drippings that tend to form and accumulate in a system or mechanism that evaporates water. Have you ever noticed the little drops of water on the back of your window air conditioning unit That’s condensate. A little condensate generally isn’t a big deal, but left untended over time, the accumulation can cause serious damage by way of corrosion. Corrosion is bad for any system. Corrosion is for the birds I say! That is why an automatic condensate return pump might be a prudent choice for your system. These pumps work to move condensate out of an area that has no access to a gravity drain. The pump collects the condensate and moves it. Other Little Giant condensate return pumps are available. The Little Giant 554401 may be the ideal choice for you. It is a small, compact and lightweight, making it ideal for fitting in specific installations. Being part of Little Giant’s vaunted VCMA-15 series, this pump is designed for the automatic collection and removal of condensate from air conditioners, refrigerators and dehumidifiers. The collection tank can hold up to ½ gallon of condensate water. Once the water is collected in the tank it can then be exported by the pump out to the city water line. Built with a vertical centrifugal design, this pump is lightweight (6 lbs.) and compact for easy installation in or near an existing condensate system. Other features: --Automatic start/stop operation --Solid polymer float --Safety overflow switch --3/8" O.D. barbed discharge adapter w/ built-in check valve --3 inlet openings --Thermally protected/fan-cooled motor --Built-in wall mount tabs --6 ft. cable Performance Curve Piping For piping, you should run flexible pipe from the evaporator drain into one of three pump inlets. The inlet piping should be fixed at a sloped angle into the tank so gravity will take effect. The pipe should also extend 1 to 3 inches into the tank so that it won’t interfere with proper float operation. The outlet pipe should extend straight up as high as necessary (within the TDH rating of the pump). From the high point, the discharge line should slope downward to a point above the drain area and then to a point below or level with the bottom of the condensate unit. If you can’t slope the discharge line down, you can try making an inverted U trap above the pump at its highest point. Flexible tubing can also be used (instead of pipe) for both the inlet and outlet. All in all, this is a very good pumping option for a system that produces condensate. In addition to air conditioning or refrigerating, it can also be used for a high efficiency oil and gas-fired condensing furnace and condensing boiler equipment. • Awesome Pump Products Cookout has Pump Fans Raving

    June 26, 2017

Pump Products held a cookout and customer appreciation event at its Westwood location on Friday, June 23. The purpose was to have a good time and eat good food with other businesses and members of both the pump community and the local community. The event was generously sponsored by Thermco, which serves as the manufacturing representative for all Armstrong products in New Jersey. Despite some clouds and light drizzle, an enthusiastic crowd turned out for the celebration. Pump Products’ master chef Giuseppe manned the grill, turning out delicious hot dogs (with sauerkraut!) and cheeseburgers. Chips, potato salad, macaroni salad, cookies, candy bars (with Pump Products wrapping!) and other treats were also readily available. The event also featured a rare appearance from Inspector Pumphead himself! “The food is really great… really tasty and top-notch,” said Pump Products videographer Mike. “It was also great to see the Inspector out and about, I know he’s really busy, so it’s great that he came.” The reps from Thermco also displayed several new products and answered questions about them, including a Generac Motor and a pump from Armstrong’s Design Envelope 4300 series. The design envelope style makes this pump compact and light. This advanced vertical in-line pump includes iECM motor technology that is more energy efficient than most pump motors. The smaller motor size and in-line design also make the pump less costly to install, since it does not need inertia bases, housekeeping pads, or other flex connectors. The pump also takes up minimal floor space. In addition to the displays, the Thermco reps also discussed best practices for distribution and customer service with Pump Products’ application engineers. “It was great to get some facetime with the Thermco reps” according to Pump Products application engineer Christian. “It really gave me an understanding of the thought process behind certain policies and that will help me help customers going forward.” In turn, customers and reps got the chance to pick the brains of Pump Products application engineers. That kind of face-to-face interaction is invaluable and simply can’t be replicated over the phone or through email. The insight gained from that interaction will surely help improve and streamline future transactions. All in all, it was a wonderful event that allowed Pump Products to show the best of itself. More events like this are planned for the upcoming months - stay tuned! Inspector Pumphead’s FAQ: Credit Card Info and Returns

    June 22, 2017

Welcome to Inspector Pumphead’s Frequently Asked Questions! In this feature, I will be answering some of the most common questions we get on a specific topic. Some of this information may be available elsewhere on our site, but hopefully the FAQ category will act as a convenient one-stop source.  In this edition we will discuss web security on PumpProducts.com, return information and the warranty process. Q: What do you do with my credit card information A: We use it to buy a lot of cool stuff for ourselves. If you see a credit card charge from Entertainment 720, that’s us buying cool stuff for our office, including: comfortable chairs and couches, tablets, high tech speaker systems, a big screen LCD TV,  designer clothes... Haha, I’m just kidding! Old Pumphead got you good, huh In all seriousness folks, credit cards get encrypted so that not even our salesmen can read the numbers once they type it into our system. That’s why sometimes a salesmen will ask for you to repeat the number over the phone. This is to ensure that your information remains safe and secure from potential threats. Q: I need to return my pump, what do I do A: Our full terms of sale and return policy is can be found on our site, and I highly encourage you read the full version to get the relevant details. The bottom line is you can return uninstalled and unopened merchandise within 30 days of the receipt for a full refund (minus shipping if the original order included free shipping). Uninstalled and opened products are subject to a restocking fee to cover examining, cleaning and testing the product, as well as the cost of the product taking up space on our shelves. Q: So I can’t get a full refund if I install the pump How am I supposed to know if it works A: The returns policy specifically covers instances where the customer, for whatever reason, simply no longer needs or wants the pump. This sometimes happens when conditions at a job location changes or if someone ordered the pump as a backup option. If the pump is installed and is not working properly, the situation becomes a warranty issue. Q: Okay, so how does the warranty process work A: Warranties are serviced by the manufacturer of the pump. Pump Products has dedicated service representatives to handle warranty claims. The first step, however, will be to contact the manufacturer directly to try and troubleshoot any issues. Often we find that suspected issues with a pump are actually problems with another aspect of a system. Clogged pipes in particular are a common problem. If the pump continues to to give you problems despite the troubleshooting, then we can start the warranty process. Call us at 1-800-429-0800 and one of our representatives will contact the manufacturer and start the paperwork. The process can sometimes take a few business days while the manufacturer evaluates the claim. If the claim is granted, you will be getting a new working replacement pump of the type you originally ordered. A new pump is not sent out until warranty is granted by the manufacturer. • Inspector Pumphead’s Classroom: Training with Franklin Electric

    June 21, 2017

Representatives from Franklin Electric swung by the Pump Products office on Tuesday, June 20 for a training session with the company application engineers, marketing team and administrative staff. The session was part of an ongoing effort to ensure that Pump Products employees have a thorough understanding of the pumps the company sells and to ensure that all employees can communicate those intricacies to customers. Proper pump sizing is the most critical function for any pump distributor. A customer should be able to rest easy knowing that he or she will receive the right pump for their specific application. The session focused specifically on the features, uses and benefits of Red Lion well pumps. Franklin recently acquired Red Lion and is positioning its wide range of pumps as a dominant force in the domestic pump market. Tim, a Franklin Electric sales manager specializing in HVAC and outdoor pumps, gave a thorough and detailed presentation on groundwater and the various types of well pumps, including shallow well, deep well and convertible. He also laid out the construction type and features of each type of pump. For instance, many models will include pipe packages and/or control panels. “The [Red Lion] pump packages are very convenient for homeowners because a lot of the necessary components come included with no additional purchase,” according to Tim. “It’s essentially ‘turn key’ operation.” Pump Products employees were free to ask questions, make suggestions and discuss the various options for each pump. It was a fruitful dialogue that will hopefully help all members of the Pump Products team help customers choose the best possible pump. The team was also able to broach the idea of a streamlined warranty process which could potentially save all parties time and money. “We’ve done a few of these training sessions and I think that this one might have been the most helpful,” according to applications engineer Nick. “It wasn’t just about how to push product but to actually think about the best way to inform customers.” “It was really interesting to learn about the different types of well pumps,” says videographer Mike. For more information on Red Lion well pumps or any other products, be sure to call and speak to one of our application engineers today at 1-800-429-0800. (Adverts for Little Giant and Red Lion)

  • Goulds WS0511B Sewage Pump Buyers Guide & Review

    June 19, 2017

Welcome to Inspector Pumphead’s recommendations! I’ll be highlighting specific pump models and explaining the applications, features and benefits. The pump featured here might be a best-seller, be seasonally appropriate or have unique features that set it apart from other pumps of the same type. Today the highlighted pump will be the Goulds WS0511B, a sturdily constructed Sewage Pump from Gould Water Technology, one of our most consistently recommended manufacturers. Goulds also sells a number of other quality sewage pumps. Application The Goulds WS0511B is a Sewage Pump pump designed specifically to handle 2” non-abrasive solids in a sewage system. This Sewage Pump can move sewage water from a house or building without a gravity line. It can also be used in effluent or general dewatering applications. Construction Goulds Pumps are famous for sturdy, dependable construction and this model is no exception, with a variety of rugged materials, such as cast iron and stainless steel, being used for different components. The volute casing and impeller are both cast iron. In addition, the impeller is semi-open/non clog and is dynamically balanced with pump out vanes that divert contaminants. The shaft is corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a threaded design, while the fasteners are 300 series stainless steel. The mechanical seal is comprised of two silicon carbide seal faces resting against each other for abrasion resistance, as well as BUNA-N elastomers for to contain the seal faces. The pump also comes with a severe duty power cord that is both oil and water resistant. The discharge is 2” NPT. The pump itself is heavy at roughly 75 lbs., so be sure to keep that in mind for installation purposes. For convenience, it can easily fit with the A10 guide rail system. Performance and Specs The Goulds WS0511B Sewage Pump can reach a maximum head of 25 ft. and a total capacity of 160 GPM. The motor operates at ½ HP and 115 V. This is a manual pump without a float switch. The pump can be run dry intermittently but is built for submerged, continuous use. • Happy Father’s Day From Pump Products!

    June 16, 2017

Father’s Day is coming up this weekend. A day often overlooked because it is not as popular as Mother’s Day and is packed between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Still, even if your family doesn’t tend to make a big deal of Father’s Day (Grandpa Pumphead always said the best gift was to “leave me alone”) it is still celebrating and getting a present for dear old dad.  Of course, as I always say, there’s no better gift than a good pump. May i suggest a sump pump from Goulds or Liberty There nothing dads love more than motioning to a piece of mechanical equipment and saying “Got it for a good price too!” That is why you absolutely must consider one of our sump pumps. Here’s some other stuff you can buy or participate in for Father’s Day: Grilling: Dads love doing this, particularly the ones who like to overcook or undercook everything. Camping: If you’re an outdoor person I guess but maybe just watch TV. Watch the U.S. Open: If your dad is an avid golfer, in which case I am so sorry. Go out to eat at a nice restaurant: This is a neutral option that probably won’t upset anybody. Go hunting: If you prefer to catch your own meat. Play a game of catch: If you like baseball, nostalgia and/or Field of Dreams. Give him a nice bottle of scotch: He deserves it after raising you. Whatever you end up doing, be sure to show some appreciation for the man who raised you, fed you and put clothes on your back. It's a day that sometimes gets overlooked, but it doesn't deserve to be. Have a good Father's Day! Pump Products application engineers are standing by to help you find the right pump, as well as provide price quotes, availability and shipping information.
