Inspector Pumphead’s Buyers Guides: Liberty Omnivore LSG Series Grinder Pumps




The Omnivore LSG200-series grinder pumps are designed for use in systems that produce high amounts of wastewater. Think motels, apartment complexes, hotels, shopping centers – any type of facility, whether commercial or residential, with high frequency usage and high volume of waste.

LSG200 series pumps are constructed with a sturdy one-piece uni-body cast iron housing, while the impeller is 316 stainless steel. The impeller contains back vanes (or pump out vanes) to better clear solids. The pumps also features dual seals – one unitized silicon carbide, the other Viton double-lip – for extra protection from solids.

Each model uses Liberty’s patented V-Slice cutter to macerate waste solids. The cutter is constructed of hardened 440 stainless steel – Rockwell C 58 and can perform up to 108 alternated cuts per revolution – perfect for turning waste solids into a fine slurry to be collected and transported. This video demonstrates the powerful macerating ability of the Omnivore’s cutter.

The pumps operates at 2 HP and features a 1-¼” discharge. Depending on the model, the pump could operate at 208-230 volts, 208/230 volts, 440-480 volts or 575 volts. Each model operates at either one or three phases of power.

The LSG202M and LSG202A have internal capacitors, so they do not need an external control. The LSG202M-C has an external capacitor so that model requires an additional control panel.

The LSGX-series variations are ideal for multi-unit land developments that share a sewage system, such as apartment complexes. LSGX pumps are similar to their cousins the LSG200, except that they are 2-stage pumps designed for high head applications.

2-stage simply means that each LSGX pump has two stainless steel impellers. The double impellers increase the velocity and can drive the maximum head up to 180 feet.

Both the LSG200 and the LSGX are constructed with the same construction materials, outer dimensions and V-Slice cutter technology. Both series also have the same guide rail configuration. Thus, Omnivore pumps are easily interchangeable within the same basin and guide rail system.

All models in the LSG200-series and LSGX-series come with three-year warranties serviced by Liberty.

Inspector Pumphead’s Buyers Guides: Liberty ProVore PRG Series Grinder Pumps



The ProVore PRG-series is expressly designed for use in residential or home wastewater systems. ProVore pumps are equipped with Liberty’s patented V-Slice stainless steel cutter that is capable of turning solids such as plastic bags, feminine products and towels into a fine slurry to be collected and exported.

The pumps are constructed with a cast iron corrosion resistant frame. The motor is oil-filled and thermally protected.

Each model in this series operates at 1 HP, 115 or 230 V, single phase power. The pumps have a 2 inch discharge and can be used as replacement pumps for systems that also have 2 inch discharge lines (that already use LE40 or LE50-series solids handling pumps). Automatic models include a wide-angled float switch with the exception of the PRG101AV which has an integral vertical float switch.

All models in the PRG-series come with three-year warranties serviced by Liberty Pumps.

Inspector Pumphead’s Buyers Guide: Goulds Aquavar e-ABII Booster Pump and System



The Goulds Aquavar e-ABII is a popular package kit for larger residential and light commercial applications with low to mid-range head requirements. The package can come in a variety of configurations, but each package will include the e-HM pump model (some will be multistage), a variable speed intelligent controller and a transducer to measure the pressure within a system.

Packages that include the expansion tank (pictured above) will also feature a compact one piece e-HM pump. The Goulds 1HM and Goulds 3HM pump models with this package can contain sizes up to 6 stages while Goulds 5HM models can reach up to 5 stages.

The other Aquavar package without the tank (pictured below) will feature a sleeve design pump with separate suction housing. 1HM and 3HM pumps of this type will have at least 7 stages, while the 5HM pumps have at least 6 stages.

The difference between the compact pumps and the sleeve pumps is in the maximum working pressure each can handle. Compact pumps can handle up to 145 psi (pounds per square inch) while sleeve pumps can handle up to 230 psi.

The intelligent controller works by sensing water use and adjusting the speed of the motor accordingly. The controller can also regulate the motor through remote commands and monitors the system to alert you of any hazards. Goulds advertises the system as “cruise control for your pump.” Each includes a power cord. Some can be wall mounted. Be sure to install the controller in the proper enclosure based on its rating.

Models in this series can reach heads ranging from the Total Dynamic Heads ranging from 25 ft. at the low end to over 250 ft. at the high end.

Please note that as these are booster pumps, they have no lift capability and should not be run dry. Do not deadhead the pumps.

All pumps motors listed below run at 208-230/460 voltage and operate with three phase power.

Myers J-BE series effluent pumps are cost effective pumps for high head wastewater/graywater applications. These pumps are typically used in STEP effluent, drainfield and mound dosing, drip disposal dosing, treatment dosing, septic tank and general high head on-site filtered effluent pumping settings.

Each pump in this series features high pressure capacity and a corrosion resistant stainless steel design ensuring long life. The motor includes built-in overload protection and is rated for continuous duty. J-BE pumps are submersible and can be frequently cycled. Despite the power rating, the pumps are lightweight, relatively compact and easy to install or configure.

Replaceable jacketed power cords come in 10/30/50 or 100 ft. options.

The Myers AG series agricultural sewage pumps are designed specifically for use in agricultural lagoon and sewage pit applications. These pumps are constructed to handle stringy trash, fibrous waste, slurries and other difficult materials without damaging the recessed vortex style impeller.

This pump comes featured in both a 3 HP and 5 HP variations, with either being able to pass 3″ solids. All pumps are made of durable, heavy duty cast iron with a powder coated finish to prevent corrosion and the buildup of salt crystals. In addition, the motor is equipped with thermal overload protection, automatic reset and dual shaft seals with seal leak probe for maximum protection against interference. The Myers AG series pumps are also equipped with leg stands and a lifting handle for simple installation.

Welcome back to Inspector Pumphead Recommends! In this feature, I will be recommending a specific pump model and highlighting the features, specifications, and benefits of this pump. It could be a new product, a best seller, a seasonally appropriate pump or one that is strongly recommended by the application engineers.

Myers HR505 Shallow Well Jet Pump

Today I am highlighting the Myers HR50 convertible well jet pump. The Myers HR50 pump is a jet pump typically used for well service in residential homes, farms and even in commercial/industrial applications.

As a convertible jet pump, the HR50 type can be used for either shallow well (less than 25 ft.) or deep well (25 ft. or more) applications with the proper fittings. Pump Products carries both subtypes as complete units, the HRD50S for shallow well applications and the HR50D for deep well applications. Please note that for new deep well installations, a jet assembly package or Packer style package must be purchased separately.

Construction

The Myers HR50 has a cast iron pump case with a precision molded polycarbonite impeller and a mixed ceramic/stainless steel shaft seal. The motor is dual ball-bearing with a voltage selector switch (115/230) in a dual compartment. The diffuser includes a stainless steel wear ring. A square D pressure switch with adjustable on/off settings is included, as is a priming screen.

Inspector Pumphead’s Buyers Guide: Goulds 45HB/70HB Series Booster Pumps



The Goulds 45HB and 70HB series booster pumps are multi-stage pumps designed to offer steady, quiet and vibration free boosting service for years. Each pump comes with a variety of stages, with the impellers and diffusers made of precision molded glass filled thermoplastic and 300 series stainless bowls with positive alignment (no gaskets required). The motor is close coupled to the pump and the ball bearings carry all radial and axial thrust loads, making these pumps perfect for continuous operation over a number of years. All pump casings are stainless steel.

Commons application settings for 45HB and 70HB pumps include high rise buildings, multiple dwelling buildings, high pressure cleaning and spraying systems, reverse osmosis systems and general booster service. The maximum inlet pressure is 100 PSI and the maximum operating temperature is 160°F.

The Myers 3RMW series sewage pumps are submersible vortex wastewater pumps designed specifically to pump fibrous or stringy solids. These Myers pumps provide smooth, vibration and cavitation free performance no matter the system requirements.

Features include a cast iron motor, recessed ductile iron impeller that reduces radial load and increases bearing life, oil-filled motor, heat sensor thermostats, seal leak probes and pump out vanes on the impeller. Available in both 1750 RPM and 3450 RPM models and/or single seal/dual seal variations.

All pumps listed below are manually operated and include a standard 20 ft. power cord jacket sealed with compression fittings and potted with epoxy to prevent wicking.

Inspector Pumphead’s Buyers Guide: Goulds 18GB/25GB/33GB Booster Pumps



The Goulds 18GB/25GB/33GB booster pumps are portable, horizontally configured multistage pumps used for residential and agricultural washdown, misting, evaporative cooling, spray systems, general boosting service and general pumping operations. The multistage design also allows for pumping to high heads while simultaneously operating quietly and vibration free.

The Goulds GB series booster pumps are designed for durability and corrosion resistance. The elements of each stage are particularly tough: the impeller and diffuser are made of glass filled engineered composite material while the bowl is 300 stainless steel rabbit lock for positive alignment with no gaskets required. A high pressure o-ring sealing can easily be disassembled for easy maintenance or repair.

The motor is designed for continuous operation. The primary difference between the two classes is the best efficiency GPM for each (18 GPM for the 18GB series, 25 GPM for the 25GB series, 33 GPM for the 33GB series).
