  • Hundreds of Firefighters Respond to the Massive Fire in Wrightsville

    October 17, 2018

On June 1st, the town of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania was shaded not underneath a blanket of clouds but by ash colored plumes of smoke rising from an industrial fire at the Donsco Incorporated facilities. Hundreds of firefighters from every corner in York County assembled to combat the blaze. The fight lasted hours. Workers knelt, knees close to scraping against the foundry floor, in order to keep their noses and mouths just underneath the enveloping smoke. They escaped the building as organized as 100 people can be during a real fire drill. One worker told the story of being lost amidst the smoke and only finding his way out when a flashlight cut through the dark clouds, like a lighthouse reaching out to lost ships. Thanks to the bravery of local firefighters and the emergency preparedness of the Donsco employees, no one was seriously injured. Though the fire was referred to as “one of the largest fire losses in Wrightsville history,” according to fire chief Chad Livelsberger, facilities can always be rebuilt. Three fire fighters and one Donsco employee were checked for heat exhaustion and dehydration but nothing serious beyond that. The flames originated when molten iron was being poured and splashed onto tanks of flammable fluid. After a few hours of fighting off the fire, firefighters set up a perimeter and pushed the public and news media back for fear of an explosion. Luckily no such catastrophe occurred. You might be asking, “But why make particular mention of this fire” Donsco represents an important step in the process of pump manufacturing. Donsco Incorporated (according to their website) is North America’s leading single source of machined iron castings. Many of these iron castings end up on pumps manufactured by brands such as Goulds and Liberty. These pumps in turn, end up at the PumpProducts.com warehouse before getting shipped out to customers all across the country. After terrible things happen, sometimes things are put into perspective. Call it the ripple effect or whatever you want but we get the chance to see how one thing affects another. People rely on pumps. Industry and infrastructure depend heavily on pumps. How would sewage be dealt with if we didn’t have pumps Pumps have even saved lives (i.e. the recent story of a Thai soccer team comprised of young children being rescued from a cave). So when something tragic happens that may slow the production of pumps, we get to see the important role pumps play in our everyday lives, even without us noticing most of the time. Simply stated: events like the Wrightsville fire remind how much we need pumps and how vital they are to making sure that our society runs like clockwork. PumpProducts.com would like to thank the firefighters who reported to the scene and all who made sure the sun set on June 1st with everyone at the scene being safe. • Pump Products Continues to Expand Line of A.Y. McDonald Products

    August 1, 2017

Pump Products has greatly expanded its stock of products from partner company A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co.  A.Y. McDonald's is one of the most reputable manufacturers of pumps, parts and accessories in the U.S.  Pump Products web administrators have been hard at work to add new items to the online store catalog.  One of the most prominent new additions is A.Y. McDonald’s well known line of jet pumps. These include standard shallow well pumps (for wells with water tables of 25 ft. or less), multi-stage jet pumps for extra power and convertible jet pumps which can service both shallow and deep wells. Of course to convert the jet pump between applications, you need the proper fittings and Pump Products carries ejector packages for both shallow and deep wells. Other new products include the DuraMac booster system package for light commercial and irrigation use. The system can shut the pump down when no flow is detected. A.Y. McDonald’s “Super Booster” series centrifugal pumps are also popular items among customers.  Folks, the only thing we don’t sell from A.Y. McDonald’s is Happy Meals. But we can give you happy deals - on pumps! Of course it’s a lot of hard work adding new products to the website which is why dedicated staff members pour over technical manuals, decipher charts and graphs and take the time to communicate with the manufacturer. “We’re happy and excited to introduce more A.Y. McDonald’s pumps to customers and give them the right information for their application” according to Pump Products web associate Jackie. “I especially love looking over the curves and writing out the specs.” Pump Products will continue to add more products from a wide variety of the top manufacturers in the business to better serve customers in the residential, commercial and industrial markets. • Inspector Pumphead Comes Alive

    July 19, 2017

1969: Man walks on the moon. 1971: man walks on the moon... uh, again. Then for a long time, nothing happened. Until now. Get ready for a seminal moment in American history, one that you will remember for the rest of your life.  I’ve been through a lot of crazy adventures in my life as Inspector Pumphead. There have been so many seminal moments...  In 1968, I argued before the U.S. Supreme Court that not allowing my company to transport pumps across state lines was an illegal restraint of trade - and I won, thus changing the face of pump distribution forever. I am the man who introduced the booster pump to Japan, the chemical resistant pump to Bolivia and the concept of indoor plumbing to Antarctica. I remain an editor-at-large for the International Pump Review of Books where I have championed such critically acclaimed works as The Piping Corrections, The Sound and the Fury (of Your Plumbing System) and A Portrait of the Plumber as a Young Man. Along with some of my friends from other countries, I helped found the International Plumbing Games™, which is now one of the most popular athletic events in the world and draws in over a billion television viewers every four years. It’s been quite a wild ride and I treasure every memory. Still, before now, I have always preferred to maintain the veil of mystery. I usually let my trained disciples, the Application Engineers, speak to you. Until NOW!                                                                         That’s right, I, Inspector Pumphead speak! This is a moment that will be long remembered in American history. Why break my silence now With Pump Products expanding at an exponential rate, I decided now was the perfect time to interact more fully with our customers. We have the momentum of a runaway freight train and we don’t plan on stopping. To get it started, this brief video introduces our top six brands or the “Super 6” as I call them. --Goulds Water Technology, provider of the IRRI-GATOR pump as well as a wide variety of other pump types. • Save on Daylight, Save on Pumps

    March 10, 2017

It’s that time of year again, when we spring forward: Daylight Saving Time is here. On Sunday, May 12, the clocks will advance when 1:59 AM changes to 3 AM. Put another way, we’re losing an hour to gain more sunlight. The idea for daylight saving is simple: adjust the clocks so that we have more daylight during times of the year when it gets dark early. The concept is popularly believed to have been invented by the famous Philadelphia 76ers mascot Benjamin Franklin, although Franklin was probably one of many contemporaries who advanced the idea.  Did You Know The U.S. did not have its traditional four time zones until the late 19th century. Before that, localities set clocks based on apparent solar time which uses sundials to measure the position of the sun at noon (mean solar time). This resulted in over 300 time zones throughout the U.S., according to some estimates. Naturally, this made coordination of activities across wide geographical swaths (postal service, railroads) extremely difficult. The Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific Standard times were introduced in 1883. In 1884, the U.S. adopted Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the standard for all clocks. In 1960, this was changed to Coordinated Universal Time, which is what we have today. Does It Make Sense Conflicting research exists, as many scientists and economists believe that DST disrupts the normal flow of society without any tangible benefit. People obviously don’t get as much sleep as they’re used to and many different problems stem from lack of sleep. People are generally more sluggish, forgetful and irritable. Business productivity decreases, while heart attacks and car accidents increase. But other than that, it’s great! Various proposals have been made to adjust the practice, such as splitting the U.S. into two time zones, East and West. Others have called for the practice to be abolished altogether. Of course, none of these proposals have gained any serious traction, so we’re probably stuck with DST for now. It's Not Just Daylight You'll Be Saving Because many people are tired and grumpy around this time, we at PumpProducts.com wanted to figure out a good way to cheer people up. And what cheers people up more than saving money On pumps especially Enter the code "dst5" at checkout to receive a $5 discount on any purchase. Offer valid until the end of March (03/31/2017).

  • Pump Products Super-Packs Every Pump For Safe Delivery

    February 13, 2017

It’s a common problem with ecommerce sites - products go right from the manufacturer to your doorstep without proper inspection. The result Many times, damaged goods. Manufacturers tend to package products for bulk shipping to distributors. Individual items are not packed properly for ground shipping. Even though pumps are often constructed with heavy duty materials, they are internally sensitive instruments. The damage accrued from too much jostling in the back of a truck can knock a pump out of commission. At PumpProducts.com we take shipping very seriously and treat every pump with the care and attention it deserves. --Once an order is received, our packing team unpacks and inspects the pump or part. --The product is then re-packed with impact-absorbing crinkle paper that braces the item and keeps it from moving too much during transport. Our expert packers mold the paper into stars, snakes and other shapes tailor-made to immobilize the boxed item. --Special care is given to delicate attachments, such as power cords and float switches. These are packed close to the body of the pump, away from the box’s edge. --The box is then stapled-up and secured with premium reinforcing tape  and readied for transport. It’s a process that eliminates a lot of headaches for both the company and the client. As a result, product returns due to damage are practically nonexistent. So when you order a pump or part from PumpProducts.com, you can be sure that it will arrive in good condition with all of the parts in place. Check out the video below to see the process firsthand:

  • It’s Groundwater Week and Here’s What You Need to Know

    December 5, 2016

The first full week of December brings snow and Christmas trees to mind for many. But in our industry, it’s also Groundwater Week, an important time to discuss and reflect on changes in groundwater in the U.S. What is Groundwater Simply put, groundwater is the water found beneath the top layer of the earth’s surface. Groundwater finds space in the cracks between rocks, soil and sand and settles in reservoirs called aquifers. Aquifers are the source for water wells and are thus the main source of all water for a significant portion of the U.S. population. Over 65,000 million gallons of groundwater were withdrawn every day in the U.S. according to a 2005 USGS survey. The NGWA Groundwater Expo The NGWA (National Groundwater Associaton) is a “a community of groundwater professionals working together to advance groundwater knowledge and the success of our members through education and outreach.” To that end, they have established the annual Groundwater Expo to bring together the best and brightest minds in the groundwater industry. This year, the Expo will take place at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from December 6 to December 8. The expo will allow manufacturers to display pumping systems, motors and other groundwater equipment on the exhibition floor. Key exhibitors this year include Boshart, Franklin Electric, Grundfos and Goulds Water Technology, all partners of PumpProducts.com. Of course, a big part of the expo is that it goes beyond exhibiting new equipment and delves into the various scientific, environmental and legal aspects of the industry as well. Contractors and suppliers will be present, but so will scientists, engineers, regulators and policy makers. Seminars this year include “The Water Systems Cost Savings Act and Other Legal and Legislative Issues,” “Solar Water Pumping: This Growing Renewable Energy Opportunity Can Become Your New Viable Revenue Source,” and a series of talks on “Large Capacity Well Efficiency: Food Production, Energy and Supply Challenges.” Keynote Speaker: Peter G McCornick, Ph.D., PE, D.WRE will give this year’s keynote speech. McCornick is a well-respected authority on subjects involving water, food and environmental research and will talk about the effects of drought and groundwater completion. The NGWA posted a fascinating excerpt of an interview with McCornick in the November issue of Water Well Journal. A relevant portion: WWJ: In the United States, how critical is the drought in the West and Southwest Peter: The chances of a 35-year or longer “megadrought” striking the Southwest and Central Great Plains by 2100 are above 80 percent if the world stays on its current trajectory of greenhouse gas emissions, report scientists from NASA, Columbia University, and Cornell University in a recent study published in the new open-access journal Science Advances. Water—and groundwater in particular—is vital to mitigating the impacts of drought in the West and Southwest. Experience from the recent drought in California shows the use of groundwater to augment shortfalls from other sources helps protect agricultural revenues. However, prolonged drought and reliance on groundwater will lead to depletion, as well as competition with other users, salinity, subsistence, and in some cases, degradation of the ecosystems. The recent experience with drought in the West and Southwest is an important reminder of the significance of groundwater and the importance of improving our management of the resource. Read more here. How Can We Meet Your Groundwater/Well Water Needs PumpProducts.com stocks a wide variety of well water pumps and accompanying accessories from top manufacturers such as Goulds Water Technology, Pentair (through its subsidiaries Berkeley and Myers) and Grundfos. Both deep well (for water tables more than 25 ft. underground) and shallow well jet pumps are available for older systems. Highly efficient submersible well pumps from Franklin Electric and Goulds are also featured. One of our most popular models is the Goulds J7S Shallow Well Jet Pump.
