Myers Model MUSP125 Sink Drain Pump Buyers Guide & Review

Inspector Pumphead recommends Myers

The Myers MUSP125 is a versatile sink drain pump that can serve in a wide variety of water transfer sink applications. Specifically, the pump was designed for wet bars, utility sinks and laundry sinks.

Basically, the Myers MUSP125 is meant to move water up and out of an area where a gravity drain line is not available – for instance, domestic wet bars are often located in a basement.

Construction and Design

The pump casing itself is made of engineered thermoplastic and can withstand up to 120° F. intermittent water temperatures. Compact (5-¾” base/9” widest point/12” height) and relatively lightweight at only 15 lbs., the Myers MUSP125 can easily fit in the tight spaces that are often found underneath sinks. The simple design also makes installation easy for both the contractor, business proprietor and homeowner.

Specs

Keep in mind that the maximum capacity (GPM) is not necessarily the most efficient capacity. Most sinks will only need to pump about 5 to 6 gallons per minute with standard use.

Mounting and Installation

A variety of installation and configuration options are available. Be sure to check that you have enough space under your sink and that there is a solid foundation for the pump. Also be sure to gather all the necessary supplies before you begin the process. Here is a breakdown diagram of a typical sink drain installation.

The suction inlet is 1-½” NPT while the discharge line is 1-¼” NPT. If the sink-drain tail piece is not 1-½” NPT you will have to adapt it to fit with a reducer adapter. It is highly recommended that you connect the pump using PVC pipe and wrap all joints with PTFE pipe thread sealant tape. Also keep in mind to not tighten the connections too stringently, which could potentially lead to cracked plastic.

Other installation recommendations:

–Do a trial assembly with no glue first
–Do not allow glue to get in the pump or motor
–Measure the PVC pipe and against the drain and trim the pipe to fit
–Make sure the pump is facing the correct direction
–Remember to install the check valve with the flap opening away from the discharge

Comprehensive installation instructions are available in the manual.
