PumpProducts.com features several series of magnetic drive pumps from manufacturer Little Giant. In a magnetic drive pump, inward-facing and outward-facing magnets work together to rotate the impeller. The pump retains the full torque of the motor without the motor shaft extending into the pump itself. The advantage of the magnetic drive pump is that there is no need for a mechanical seal nor an accompanying risk of seal leakage. This makes the pump ideal for systems in which leaks are dangerous such as the transfer of corrosive acids, alkalis, solvents and other chemicals.
