  • Pump Products Now Distributing Darley Fire Pumps

    August 16, 2017

Pump Products is proud to announce its latest manufacturing partnership with Darley Pumps. Darley is a manufacturing company specifically known for making fire pumps and other quality products often used by fire departments and other first responders. According to the company’s mission statement, Darley’s mission is “to passionately serve the world’s first responder and tactical communities by providing high quality, safe and innovative products with unmatched commitment and service.” Pump Products currently carries engine driven “floating” pumps from Darley. Floating pumps are portable pumps built into a buoyant floating structure. These pumps sit on the surface of a water source and can quickly build up capacity and head. The portability and mobility is especially important in areas where a fire hydrant or other connection to city water may not be readily available. These pumps can be put in a barrel, fountain, swimming pool or other nearby bodies of water and be made ready to fight fire. Naturally, these pumps can also be used for general dewatering and water transfer applications. Current pumps available include the HEF11H Dolphin, the HEF10.5BS Dolphin and the 2BEF-BS Porpoise. Each of these pumps are self priming and built to supply high volumes of water very quickly. Pumps include either Honda or Briggs & Stratton high performance motors and attached fuel tanks with a recoil rope start. Anodized aluminum or alloyed aluminum make them light enough for two people to easily move or displace.  All in all, these pumps are a good option for a local/volunteer fire department or if you are in a location removed from city water and where fire is a concern, such as at a farm. Pump Products application engineers are standing by to help you find the right pump, as well as to provide price quotes, stocking availability and shipping information. Inspector Pumphead’s FAQs: The Difference Between Manual vs. Automatic Sewage P...

    August 14, 2017

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, I’m glad you could attend, come inside, come inside: it’s Inspector Pumphead’s Frequently Asked Questions! In this feature, I will be answering some of the most common questions we get on a specific topic. Some of this information may be available elsewhere on our site, but hopefully the FAQ category will act as a convenient one-stop source.  In this edition, I'll discuss the difference between manual and automatic pumps and give you a little information about our discounts. Q: What does it mean when you say a pump is ‘manual’ Does that mean I have to work the pump by hand A: Nope! It simply means that the pump has to be manually plugged in every time you want the pump to run. There is no mechanism to start the pump automatically. Conversely, automatic pumps feature a mechanism that will start the pump in certain conditions, typically a float switch. There are a variety of different types of switches, but probably the easiest way to help you visualize it is with a tethered switch. When the water level in a pit or basin rises, the tethered float will "swing" upward and activate the switch, which in turn activates the pump. Float switches can be purchased separately and attached to manual pumps. Q: Okay, quick followup: when is it better to have a manual pump or vice versa A: It's really just a matter of control: if you want to know exactly when your pump runs, how long it runs, how much water it pumps, etc. then you should buy a manual pump. If you'd rather just set up your pump system and let the amount of  water determine its operation, buy an automatic pump. Generally speaking, our application engineers recommend getting an automatic pump with a piggyback float - you can always detach the float and run the pump manually if you so desire. Keep in mind that manual pumps also need to be hardwired directly into a control panel. • Goulds 4NS Series Sewage Pumps Buyers Guide & Review

    August 14, 2017

PumpProducts.com is now carrying the Goulds 4NS series submersible non-clog Sewage Pumps. These pumps have a 4" 125# ANSI flanged discharge which allows the pump to pass wastewater containing up to 3" non abrasive waste solids. The 4NS can also be connected to a 4" wet pit guide rail or to a 4 x 6 guide rail connection. These heavy duty 4NS series can reach high capacities and high heads and are specifically designed for a wide range of commercial and industrial level applications, such as in sewage systems, industrial dewatering systems, wastewater treatment plants, municipal lift stations, and flood control. This is accomplished by pairing a ruggedly constructed pump with a powerful high performance motor. The pump itself is cast iron with two vane closed impeller with a replaceable bronze wear ring. A dual mechanical seal with 305 series stainless steel metal components, BUNA-N elastomers and carbon/rotary vs. ceramic/stationary faces ensures leak free performance. The motor is CSA certified one-piece shaft made of 416 stainless steel. Each motor is air-filled and designed for continuous duty when fully submerged but can also operate up to 15 minutes in the air. • Inspector Pumphead Previews the PGA Championship!

    August 10, 2017

It's time for the last Major golf tournament of the year, the PGA Championship. While this tournament may not have the history and prestige of The Masters or The (British) Open, it still an important event for the top golfers to round out their Major season, while many young up-and-comers will look to make their mark. This year's Championship will take place at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the club's first hosted Major and the quality of the course has been questioned privately by some golfers and caddies, as is often the case with many first time venues. Of course, part of the challenge of golf is adapting to the challenges and vagaries of each specific course. All eyes at this year's tournament will be on British Open winner Jordan Spieth. Spieth is perhaps the most popular young golfer in the world, and his win at the Open may have quelled any doubts about his ability to bounce back after the adversity he experienced last season. The PGA Championship represents the chance for Spieth to complete the career Grand Slam (winning all four Major tournaments) at only 24 years old. If successful, he would complete the Slam at a younger age than Jack Nicklaus as well as Tiger Woods, too. Could Rory McIlroy be the one standing in his way Many of the betting crowd are predicting a collision course between the two bright young stars. McIlroy is in an interesting place; still good and respected, but not quite as dominant as some in the golf community think he is capable of being. Could the PGA Championship have a rejuvenating effect on him, the way the Open seemingly did for Spieth It will be fascinating to find out. While Spieth and McIlroy may be the main draws, there is always plenty of intrigue at any Major - one merely has to go back through the history of golf to find instances where the favorites falter and someone surprising or unexpected rises to take the place. Could that happen this year The only way to find out is to watch! • Goulds 3SD/4SD Series Sewage Pumps Buyers Guide & Review

    August 9, 2017

The Goulds 3SD and 4SD Sewage Pumps are high capacity submersible pumps designed specifically to handle commercial and industrial level wastewater applications. All of these pumps have maximum capacities in the three digits and have the construction to handle those numbers. Typical application settings include hospitals, trailer courts, farms, and motels. Goulds 3SD and 4SD Series are often prominently featured in flood and pollution control applications. Both series can also be used for general sewage system, dewatering, and effluent applications as well. These pumps in both series include a dual seal (outer: silicon carbide vs. silicon carbide; inner: ceramic vs. carbon) for extra protection and a seal sensor probe that can detect if anything penetrates the seal. That's unlikely because each pump contains a cast iron, two vane, semi-open, nonclog impeller with pump out vanes to ward off any impediments. The rest of the pump is similarly constructed with a rugged cast iron volute and 300 series stainless shaft and fasteners. These Sewage Pumps are capable of running dry without damage to the components. The main difference between the two series is in the solids handling ability and subsequently, the discharge size. 3SD pumps can pass 2.5" waste solids through the 3" NPT horizontal discharge while 4SD pumps can pass 3" solids through a 4" NPT horizontal discharge. Some 4SD pumps have 7 HP motors as well. All models listed here are manually operated and include a 20 ft. power cord. August 7, 2017

PumpsProducts.com is now carrying the Goulds 2WD and 3WD non-clog series. Both series are rugged, heavy duty pumps designed specifically to handle wastewater transport, effluent transport, and dewatering applications in commercial or light industrial settings. Every pump in either series can handle up to 2" diameter non-abrasive solids. The volutes are built with flanged cast iron for durability and easy attachment to the A10-20 guide rail system. There are options for the impeller between either a semi-open or enclosed type; both are made of cast iron and are non-clog with pump out vanes to divert solids from the mechanical seal. The seal itself is dual construction; the lower seal has silicon carbide vs. silicon carbide sealing faces, while the upper seal is comprised of carbon vs. ceramic faces. The metal parts of the seals are stainless steel and BUNA-N elastomers encompass the faces for extra protection. A seal sensor probe indicates seal leakage or failure to the control panel. These two well designed Sewage Pumps Series will fulfill all your commercial/light industrial wastewater needs. The main difference between the series is the discharge size. 2WD series pumps have a 2" NPT flanged horizontal discharge, 3WD series pumps have a 3" NPT flanged discharge. • Inspector Pumphead’s Quick Tips: Check Your Pump Discharge Piping

    August 3, 2017

Here’s another edition of everyone’s favorite semi-recurring content feature: Inspector Pumphead’s Quick Tips! In this space, I, Inspector Pumphead from Pump Products, will be sending out friendly reminders and dispensing basic tips for ordering, maintaining and servicing pumps. The Inspector is in and here to help! Tip: Check your discharge outlet before buying a new pump. Recently, a friend of mine had to replace his sump pump. He noticed that the pump was not evacuating water out of the basin at the same rate as it previously did - and the sump pump was over five years old at the time, so it was no big deal to get a new one. Unfortunately, once he installed the new pump, he found that the new pump wasn't moving any more water than the previous pump did. "Inspector this pump is defective!", my friend said. So he bought another brand new pump - and the same exact thing happened! The problem was actually with his pipes. The discharge line was clogged with dirt and sediment. My friend will keep one of the pumps as a backup, but he still spent money that he didn't need to spend. The moral of this story is that sometimes the problem isn't with your pump, it's with something else in your system. Be sure to examine all aspects of your system before making major changes!
