How To Find Your Pump Product & Part Number

The Pump Products Guide to Identifying Your Pump
The Pump Products Guide to Identifying Your Pump

When a Pump Products product expert receives an inquiry about a replacement pump or pump part, one of the first things he asks for is a product or part number which will provide him with comprehensive information about the unit’s features and technical specifications.

Whether it’s an Armstrong, Bell & Gossett, Berkeley, Grundfos or Hydromatic model, properly identifying the item will help our experts troubleshoot problems and provide the right replacement unit or repair part.

However, identification numbers aren’t always easy to find. While there is no single location to find ID numbers on all products, the following steps will help you to track them down on many common pumps and parts.

1. Check the item for a nameplate. A nameplate is a steel identification tag riveted to the pump body. Product information such as a serial number, model number, and part/product number can be found on a product nameplate.

2. If the nameplate is missing, try to locate the casting number. Casting numbers are stamped directly in the steel/iron or bronze of the pump. These numbers are a good source of information about the unit.

3. Whenever possible, try to combine information on the pump motor along with the casting number. Most motors have a label providing a horsepower rating and frame size. All of this information is useful in selecting the right replacement parts. Like motors, entire pumps are sometimes identified by stickers, so don’t disregard them in your search for a nameplate or casting number.

4. In the absence of the above information, consult your owner’s manual or other paperwork that came with your product.  Most product manuals will indicate where to find the model number.

5. Can’t find your paperwork? Try contacting customer support for the manufacturer of your product.
