This is accomplished by a small and quiet Taco recirculating pump that is attached to your hot and cold water lines. When it is active cold water gets circulated back to the water heater through the cold water line, which would otherwise be common water run-off while waiting for hot water. Instead, “Instantly, the pump circulates hot water from the water heater and returns the cooled water back through the cold water line,” according to Taco.

“For small homes with 50 feet of piping the taco 006-CF-USK model is recommended. While for medium homes with 100 feet of piping the 008-CF-USK is better and for large or commercial properties in excess of 100 feet of piping the 011-CF-USK is the best suited,”  recommends Pump Engineer Nick Leavitt.

Moreover, the On Command System’s heat sensor and control board provides self regulation and comfort by knowing when the water is hot enough and preventing excessive hot water from going into the waterline.
