  • Pump Products Now Stocking Alderon Industries Controls

    December 13, 2017

Pump Products is now carrying pump control products and accessories from Alderon Industries. Based out of Hawley, MN, Alderon is a growing company that manufactures control panels, float switches and liquid level switches. “Alderon serves the OEM market, the commercial, and residential market, and special application needs of our customers,” according to the company’s website. The two main categories of products now being distributed are water level alarms, and sewage pump control panels. The most notable alarm type is Alderon’s innovative and versatile Versa’Larm series which can be used in a wide variety of application settings, including septic tanks, sump pits, holding tanks, water tanks, etc., as well as in condensate applications with a dry lead. The Versa’larm 4X series is rated Type 4X for outdoor use with a tank and is waterproof against pressurized wash-downs. Many of the Versa’larm alarms include an auto-reset that automatically resets the buzzer when the alarm conditions clear. The Check It series of control panels can be used for sewage/wastewater applications and includes a thermoplastic enclosure NEMA/4X rated for indoor/outdoor use. Common features on this control panel include alarm flashes, control circuit breakers, indicator lights, and auxiliary contacts. Float switches are not included; both simplex and duplex models are available. “We’re all really excited to add another quality control manufacturer to our repertoire,” Pump Products application engineer Lee says. “It’s an increasingly big part of our business and customers are more sophisticated than ever about getting the right controls for their pumping systems.” Pump Products is also looking to do training with Alderon Industries to better understand the products and communicate the value to customers. • NOW IN STOCK: Armstrong Maintenance-Free Circulators & Seal Bearing Assemblies

    March 28, 2014

As part of Pump Products ongoing effort to meet the demands of customers in the building maintenance and contracting markets, we've added Armstrong's new Maintenance-Free S & H Circulators and Seal Bearing Assemblies to our 2014 inventory. The new Maintenance-Free (MF) versions of Armstrong's popular S & H Circulator lines and Seal Bearing Assemblies (SBA) contain permanently lubricated bearings that require no oiling or greasing. The Maintenance-free version of Armstrong's popular S & H lines eliminates the sleeve bearing, which requires periodic oiling, and replaces it with a sealed bearing assembly, requiring no lubrication. This small design improvement can provide building owners with substantial savings in maintenance and repair costs, and extend pump life for those who do little or no maintenance. (more…)

  • Condensate Pump Buyers Guide

    October 7, 2013

Dehumidifiers, drinking fountains, soda machines and ice makers all produce condensate that will accumulate and cause damage unless it is removed. Large climate control and refrigeration systems, often produce large volumes of condensate requiring continual draining and disposal. View our condensate pump video Video used courtesy of Steve Markee Condensate pumps are designed to move the water produced by moisture-prone equipment to a holding tank before routing it to a sewer or drain. The holding tank collects condensate liquid until it rises to a level that raises an internal float switch which activates the pump until the liquid level in the tank is lowered. Condensate pumps are available in centrifugal, peristaltic and other styles and range in size from small fractional horsepower units to large industrial pumps that recycle condensate water within a system. The output of small condensate pumps is usually routed to a sewer or drain. Because condensate water can be very hot and contain acids and other contaminants it may require careful handling and disposal according to local regulations. When correctly installed and maintained condensate pumps usually provide years of trouble-free service. Pump Products has an inventory of quality condensate pumps and accessories suitable for use in a wide range of applications. Choosing A Condensate Pump The first step in choosing the right condensate pump is to determine if your application is subject to local condensate handling and disposal regulations. Select a model that operates within these guidelines. Figure out the lift requirement for the pump by identifying where the pump will be mounted and where the discharge point will be. Condensate flow will decrease in accordance with the height it must travel until maximum, or "shut-off" lift is reached. Select a pump with a maximum lift rating that is suitable for your application. Check your equipment service manual to determine the condensate output and choose a pump with sufficient capacity. As a general rule, the output flow of the pump should be at least double the input rate from the appliance. Ascertain your voltage requirements. Most pumps are available in 115 or 230V. Some  commercial grade pumps are available in 460V. If property damage or personal injury can result from an inoperative or leaking pump, choose a condensate pump with an alarm or auxiliary switch backup system or install one with your pump. TIPS Unplug the pump and clean out the reservoir at the beginning and end of each heating season. Use a commercial algaecide and follow manufacturer’s instructions. Never pump flammable liquids Do not handle unit with wet hands or while standing in water Do not expose pump or discharge to freezing temperatures For detailed specs, manuals and reviews of the condensate pumps we stock and ship nationally, visit our product pages at www.pumpproducts.com or call us for details: 1-800-429-0800.

  • Shredder Pump Buyers Guide

    February 6, 2013

A shredder pump is a submersible wastewater pump designed to shear rags, plastic bags and other solids that would clog an ordinary sewer ejector pump. These pumps use a cutting impeller to whittle solids down to a consistency that a wastewater system can easily handle. Cutting action occurs only when solids are present, otherwise shredder pumps operate like submersible sewage pumps.  Watch Our Shredder Pump Video        CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR CATALOG OF SHREDDER PUMPS Applications include sewage pump stations, septic systems, commercial and industrial sewage injector systems, hotels, construction sites and other applications requiring the reduction of difficult solids. Shredder pumps are more common today than they were before plastics began to dominate the disposable consumer goods market. In the past, most sanitary products were made of cotton and paper, which disintegrate in water and create little resistance when passing through a wastewater disposal system. Today, many of those products are made of plastics, which remain intact and stretch rather than tear when passing through a system, often creating a “net” that traps other debris. If your sewage ejector system is subject to frequent clogging, you probably need a shredder pump. Today’s powerful shredders will grind down items ranging from cell phones to sneakers.  How To Select the Right Shredder Pump When choosing a shredder pump it's important to consider the application it will be used in. Submersible Shredder Pumps, also known as cutter pumps, will shear down problematic debris to a size most wastewater systems can process. They are designed for high flow, low head applications up to about 50 feet. For lower flow, high head conditions 50-150 feet, grinder pumps provide another option. High Temperature Shredder Pumps will run in liquids that are too hot for conventionally built submersible pumps. High temperature shredders normally operate in temperatures between 140-200 °F. They are constructed of heat and corrosion-resistant materials and are a popular choice in process applications and those involving boiler blow-down. Explosion-Proof Shredder Pumps are designed for use in combustible gas environments such as municipal and industrial wastewater facilities. They are constructed of durable, flame-resistant materials and contain motors super-reinforced to protect them from contact with liquids and abrasive materials. For detailed specs, manuals and reviews on the shredder pumps, parts and accessories we stock and ship nationally, visit our product pages at www.pumpproducts.com or call us for details: 1-800-429-0800.
