First, check your sprinkler heads for the optimal flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM.) Multiply that amount by the number of heads in each zone to get your water requirement.

Next, determine the depth of your water source. This will factor into the style of pump that’s right for you.

Finally, check your power system. Irrigation pumps are available in electric and gas-fueled models. If your home runs on a 208 volt system, a 230 volt pump may not be suitable.
