  • Goulds Model WE0511H Effluent Pump Buyers Guide & Review

    June 29, 2017

The Goulds WE0511H is an excellent choice if you are looking for an Effluent Pump. This pump can move effluent (or graywater) in residential or light commercial settings. It was specifically designed for on-site wastewater treatment in multi-unit dwellings with expansive systems. Think farms, trailer parks, motels, schools and hospitals. Basically, any site that involves a large number of people using the system everyday. The Goulds WE0511H Effluent Pump can transport effluent containing up to ¾” non abrasive solids. It is a heavy duty pump at approximately 70 lbs. Construction Goulds Effluent Pumps are known for sturdy, well-designed construction and this model is no exception. The volute is rugged class 30 gray cast iron for extra protection. Specifically, the cast iron is thick enough to withstand 1.5 times (!) the shut-off pressure that could potentially be produced by the largest available impeller for the pump. Now that’s rugged. The shaft is stainless steel with a threaded design and the fasteners are 300 series stainless steel. The cast iron impeller is a semi-open type with pump out vanes that distribute potential contaminants to prevent clogging. The mechanical seal has two sealing silicon carbide faces and BUNA-N elastomers for containment. Extra special construction is particularly important for submersible effluent pumps because of the potentially corrosive effects of being submerged in and pumping out wastewater for extended periods of time. The construction of the Goulds WE0511H Effluent Pump ensures that the pump will avoid damage and perform for the life of the pump. In fact, while the pump is meant to be run continuously submerged, it can also be run dry for intermittent periods. Naturally, such a pump will need to be able to withstand certain temperatures and the Goulds WE0511H can withstand continuous water temperatures up to 104° F. Performance The curve for all models in the series is shown below: -CurveThe WE0511H can reach capacities up to 80 GPM and a maximum head of 45 ft. TDH. Breakdown Diagram Part Options Other options for certain parts and/or configuration are available for this pump. Be sure to choose the best available option according to your specific application needs, such as the size of a system or the type of job. Options include: --Silicon bronze impeller --Mechanical seal faces of silicon carbide/tungsten carbide --The power cable length (20 ft. is standard) These options ensure that you can use the Goulds WE0511H Effluent Pump to its best performance ability to suit your effluent pumping application. June 19, 2017

Welcome to Inspector Pumphead’s recommendations! I’ll be highlighting specific pump models and explaining the applications, features and benefits. The pump featured here might be a best-seller, be seasonally appropriate or have unique features that set it apart from other pumps of the same type. Today the highlighted pump will be the Goulds WS0511B, a sturdily constructed Sewage Pump from Gould Water Technology, one of our most consistently recommended manufacturers. Goulds also sells a number of other quality sewage pumps. Application The Goulds WS0511B is a Sewage Pump pump designed specifically to handle 2” non-abrasive solids in a sewage system. This Sewage Pump can move sewage water from a house or building without a gravity line. It can also be used in effluent or general dewatering applications. Construction Goulds Pumps are famous for sturdy, dependable construction and this model is no exception, with a variety of rugged materials, such as cast iron and stainless steel, being used for different components. The volute casing and impeller are both cast iron. In addition, the impeller is semi-open/non clog and is dynamically balanced with pump out vanes that divert contaminants. The shaft is corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a threaded design, while the fasteners are 300 series stainless steel. The mechanical seal is comprised of two silicon carbide seal faces resting against each other for abrasion resistance, as well as BUNA-N elastomers for to contain the seal faces. The pump also comes with a severe duty power cord that is both oil and water resistant. The discharge is 2” NPT. The pump itself is heavy at roughly 75 lbs., so be sure to keep that in mind for installation purposes. For convenience, it can easily fit with the A10 guide rail system. Performance and Specs The Goulds WS0511B Sewage Pump can reach a maximum head of 25 ft. and a total capacity of 160 GPM. The motor operates at ½ HP and 115 V. • Goulds GT IRRI-GATOR Series Centrifugal Pumps Buyers Guide & Review

    April 12, 2017

The Goulds GT Irri-Gator series of self-priming centrifugal pumps is built for dependability, efficiency, and easy maintenance.  In addition to lawn sprinkling, Irri-Gator pumps can be used for irrigation, air conditioning and heating systems, water transfer, and dewatering applications. Discharges for this series are 1-1/2" NPT in size. The Goulds GT series is constructed with a solid cast iron frame. In addition, an “electro-coat” paint finish is applied to both the interior and exterior of the pump housing. Electro-coating simply uses electrical current to deposit the paint finish on the item, which is then baked in a curing oven. The process reinforces the casing for corrosion and abrasion resistance. The impeller is a FDA-compliant, glass-filled Noryl impeller which is also corrosion resistant. Since the pump could be exposed to corrosive elements such as wind, rain, dirt, and groundwater, corrosion-resistance is especially important. Thus, the Goulds GT series is perhaps the most reliable irrigation pump option for years of continued good service. Self-Priming The Goulds GT series is built with a centrifugal self-priming design. Once the initial priming is performed, the pumps will reprime once the water level rises above the level of the suction pipe. The self-priming action makes it a convenient pump for lawn sprinkler systems designed to operate at certain pre-timed intervals. The pumps are also powered for continuous use off of the self-priming action. They can reach up to 25 ft. of suction lift after repriming. Easy Serviceability A back pullout design allows for the ‘back end’ of the pump to be separated from the ‘wet end,’ which remains attached to the piping. Certain back end components, such as seals and bearings can thus be easily removed from the pump. This is of great convenience if a specific part needs to be cleaned, serviced, or replaced but you don’t want to detach the wet end from your piping. The motor casing is also constructed with a two compartment design for easy access to the motor wiring. You can maintain parts of the pump when they need to be maintained without disrupting the whole of your system. Customers are more likely to take proper care of the pump and perform preventive maintenance because of the convenience of the back pullout design. And preventive maintenance is the best way to ensure consistent performance over the life of the pump. • Goulds Deep Well Submersible Pumps Buyers Guide & Review

    March 17, 2017

Goulds Submersible Well Pumps are used to draw water from a well in an area where there is no connection to a municipal water line. In this blog, we will highlight Goulds Submersible Well Pumps.  Typically found in rural or outlying areas, well pumps can be used for a variety of applications, including farming, irrigation or simply drawing potable water. Two broad categories of well pumps exist: submersible and jet pumps. As the name suggests, the submersible well pumps are submerged under water at the bottom of the well. Jet pumps are installed above the well and require a separate jet assembly component (twin pipe, Packer) actually installed in the well. Goulds Pumps are compact, close coupled single-component and can be configured for deep well applications. Goulds Submersible Well Pumps Performance The model highlighted here is a low-flow, high head model that can perform in deep well applications. The best efficiency flow rate for the 5GS10412C is 5 gallons per minute, while the head can reach over 600 feet TDH. The pump accomplishes the high heads through the use of multiple stages. A “stage” is simply a compartment consisting of a diffuser, upthrust washer, impeller and a bowl. The model highlighted here includes 20 stages stacked on top of each other. The mechanism is straightforward: water enters the inlet and moves up through the stages. The rotating impeller reacts against the stationary diffuser vane, increasing water pressure. As the water moves through each successive stage, the actions is repeated and pressure continues to increase exponentially. A key point to remember is that the number of stages is positively correlated with head and inversely correlated with flow; the fewer stages, the higher (in terms of GPM) the best efficiency flow rate. We carry Goulds Submersible Well Pumps with various stages in our store. It is a Floating Impeller Stack (as opposed to a fixed impeller stack) which has proven itself for over 50 years as a superior sand handling and durable pump design. It is also more flexible than a fixed impeller stack. This package includes a compact Centripro control box for simple start-stop management. Construction As with any Goulds Submersible Pump, durability is an important consideration. Rust and corrosion are dangerous impediments to any type of equipment that operates submerged under water. If you are relying on such a pump for your potable water, you need to be especially attentive to the possibility of damage. Goulds Well Pumps feature some of the most rugged top-to-bottom construction of any submersible well pump on the market. It starts with the outer casing, which is made of durable, corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The check valve is stainless steel as well, while the discharge head is cast stainless steel. Noryl impellers and Lexan diffusers also ensure that the pump internals are resistant to abrasion. The engineering polymer bearing ensures durability throughout the pump body. 4” Centripro motors are both powerful and durable for continued best performance operation. Pumps with motor packages are available as are pump ends or “wet ends” only. Packages that include control boxes are available as well.    Be sure to consult your local well specialist for installation and maintenance purposes.
