  • Quick Tips: Pullout Design for Goulds Irrigator Pumps

    July 11, 2017

In this space, I, Inspector Pumphead from PumpProducts.com, will be sending out friendly reminders and dispensing basic tips for ordering, maintaining and servicing pumps. The Inspector is in and here to help! Tip: Pumps with a back pullout design are easier to clean, service and repair. You may have noticed that some of our Centrifugal Pumps, such as the Goulds IRRI-GATOR, are listed as having a “back pullout” or “pullout design.” This simply means that the rotating assembly of the pump can be pulled out of the volute or pump casing without disturbing the piping. As noted above, this makes cleaning those areas of the pump (including parts such as bearings, shaft seals, etc.) much easier. Quick disassembly can also be beneficial if you need to perform any maintenance. This can save you a lot of time, money and headaches.   Pump Products applications engineers are standing by to help you find the right pump, as well as to provide price quotes, availability and shipping information. • What is the Best Circulator Pump to Keep You Out of the Cold?

    December 31, 2014

As temperatures drop the circulator pump becomes more and more important because it acts as the heart of hydronic heating systems: It circulates water in a closed circuit. Thus, if the circulator pump fails so does the heat, leaving you, literally, out in the cold. So, picking the right circulator becomes of paramount importance. When you’re picking circulator pumps one common quandary is whether to get a 3-piece in-line circulator pump or 1-piece cartridge circulator, commonly referred to as 1-3 speed circulator pump. Now, a 1 piece circulator pump contains a volute and motor built into one piece. It is typically meant to be used until it breaks and then replaced completely.  While, a 3 piece circulator pump contains a volute, bearing assembly and motor built in a way that parts can be repaired or replaced rather than replacing the entire pump. Our most popular examples of a 1 piece circulator are the Taco 007-F5 of the 007 series and the Grundfos UPS15-58FC Super Brute. Meanwhile, our most popular examples of the 3-piece circulator are the Bell & Gossett 106189 and the Armstrong S25 174031-013. Each pump has its own benefits are suited better for different applications. With 1 piece circulator pumps the benefits are: (more…)

  • Pump Products Reviews In-Line Circulator Pump Replacement Parts

    November 19, 2014

An in-line circulator pump, or 3-piece circulator, is comprised of three main components: The volute, the motor and the bearing assembly. So what are the three most commonly repaired parts on a 3 piece circulator Bearing Assemblies Seals Couplers A bearing assembly connects the pump motor and volute via a shaft on each end. Bearing assemblies must be periodically lubricated to ensure proper operation unless they are self-lubricating or "maintenance-free." Because they have many moving parts and are in constant use, they are prone to wear and are commonly in need of replacement. A turning motor that isn't pumping water probably has a worn-out bearing assembly. Fortunately, bearing assemblies are easy to replace and Pump Products carries replacement assemblies for many popular pump models. We have a large selection of Bell & Gosset bearing assemblies  & Armstrong Bearing assemblies in stock and available for next-day delivery.
